About The Site

JimiBRacing.com is an evolving website. It is my personal blog that I hope to use as the ground works of several projects to follow. The primary nuts and bolts of the deal will be shop, road, and track war stories in a media rich, facebook/TextsFromLastNight meets National Dragster manner, as if narrated by some conglomeration of John Force, Anthony Bourdain, and some fave fictional characters such as Hank Moody and Van Wilder. “Write that down”. Mixed in with that will also be build coverage of various projects I’m involved in ranging from street cars/bikes across as many forms of motorsports and automotive enthusiasm. And since this particular site is my personal blog, there is no telling what I may carry on about… Most likely music, poker, women and more in no certain order or emphasis... I’m sure some of my facebook friends will be happy I have a new outlet for my literary dribble. From there I hope to add sections and other sites for services, products, event coverage, and marketing partners.

Disclaimer:

This is a shakedown run. I have the about sections up front and center only for the short term. We will be trying a lot of different things. Some I am sure will be a flop, and others I hope will be great. I am a pretty serious guy in a lot of aspects and like to be professional. However I employ a fairly "colorful" vocabulary and am often they guy in the room that says what others are thinking but would assume nobody else would dare say... Or even worse, I might say something that nobody was thinking. Yeah, awkward situations are no big deal with this guy. Usually all in good humor however. Of course I would like for the site/s to grow, but at the very least I am happy to have a place to keep my thoughts, document my travels/experiences, and have fun with yet another hobby that transpired from my racing addiction.

About Jimi B

AKA "J Boogie". Racing anything with an internal combustion engine has been a way of life from jump street for me. I grew up in bracket racing and the NHRA Sportsman ranks. I have also been heavily involved with sport compact racing. Racing has led me down many paths in my career and personal life . In my professional life I have experience in engineering design work, project planning, technical writing, trucking, custom automotive interior, and I am an ASE Master Certified Engine Machinist & Assembly Specialist. In the shop or at the track, I have worked on or designed everything from armored luxury vehicles for princes, sheikhs, ambassadors, government/military and rappers, to drag cars ranging from alcohol funny car to sport compact , as well as other forms of Motorsports from circle tracks, tractor pulling, and boats. While I certainly enjoy driving and have driven here or there, I've always been more focused on being able to build and maintain the cars then driving. I figured there was a lot greater chance in making a living in racing that way. After breaking my back a couple years ago and being told I am lucky to be walking I decided I had better start driving while I can still climb in and out of race cars. The media and marketing side of Motorsports is a growing interest of mine and this is the humble beginnings.

Some testing done.. Last minute details and tuning. Decent results, but “Not what we are looking for”

Last minute converter swaps, broken down on the side of the road twice, and all sorts of entertaining side stories that I normally would like to tell… But for now I have to concentrate more on making the story instead of telling it. We ran 13.85 yesterday. .8 under the index, but we have to add about 100 pounds today to make it legal for BF/S. There is however a decent amount of room for tuning. Its a good thing I live for last minute thrashing!

Better..

Moms out of hospital, cams sound bad ass, good compression, slick are fitted nice in the fenderwells. Should be legal and fast! I for see some late night testing on some roads in.. .Ummm Mexico if you see any videos.

Almost!

Car running.. For a cpl minutes. Cams are back out.. Lifters were a little too noisey. Should be a quick fix…

Getting ready for the Big Go!

Well its 2:48am. According to NHRA’s website its 8 days, 6 hours and 10 minutes until the 57th annual U.S. Nationals begin. We all know its sooner than that. I’m not just talking about the multiple days to get pitted leading up to. From what I have seen, heard, and am now finally experiencing… “The Big Go” is more like a season. Indy is all the buzz this time of year. Some of us have been working since last years Indy to make this year! Growing up, Indy was special to me just because it was 1 of 2 national events that were with in a couple hours drive and we could go watch the pros. Even years later when my father started running divisional races and even a national I still did not realize that the US nationals was quite simply the most prestigious drag race in the world. Only since becoming interested in class racing have I realized this. As I am always saying, I love all forms of motor-sports and all types of cars. I got in to the sport compact deal in my late teens and never looked back. I still love all of the cars and racing that you can see at a NHRA race. However, I believe at the Bowling Green divisional race in maybe 03 I saw the Stock/Super Stock classification guide for my first time. In it I saw that the platform that I was very familiar with on the track and the street was included. I have wanted to run a DSM (Diamond Star Motrors, a Mitsubishi/Chrysler partnership that brought us the Eclipse, Talon, and Laser) since that day. In those days I had given up slightly… OK… A noticeably larger salary to start working in the engine business. To say I no longer had spare money for my own toys was an understatement, and when I eventually had the money I went the fast street car route versus building a stock turbo Mitsubishi because my small part time work customer base wouldn’t relate to class racing. I always had a hard time focusing on that project because there was no competitive racing. Just a few local loud mouths with setups not really matched for any specific racing. So in 08 I decided I would get serious about joining the class racing ranks. I thought it would be simple to throw this little project together and I could probably build 2 of them for what I would part out my big turbo set up for. Wrong. Economy, personal life (for now Ill spare you the details of unexpected single-ness, booze, partying, women and all that)… And of course even in the little fwd classes.. It is not easy to prepare a stock eliminator car with all of the rules.. Some of which are useful, and some I am utterly disgusted with how much time, money, and thought I have put in to making a legal car that goes A to B in one piece.

Unlike my normal antics… I am going to skip a lot of details from the last 2 years and the first
car I was building for the class. A little bit of the third life crisis (the aforementioned booze and women), little bit of this and that. I would of liked to had my blog up and running for most of the last year but I am a one man show trying to build a car, work a full time job, a couple other hustles, and another thing that has slowed my personal race program up is I am in the process of hopefully going legit with my side work, and opening my own engine machine shop by the end of this year! Every extremity I have crossed, nothing official yet. Back to the point. Some of you may be facebook friends with me and followed my close calls and last minute thrashes. Long story almost short. I finally got my car to a divisional race and tech-ed in in Stanton a few weeks ago. The car was not quite ready to go down the track so I didn’t, but I got tech-ed and got my grade point to get on the list for Indy! Looks like that was a bad $1200 investment since the field doesn’t seem like it will fill up and I could of just got my grade point at this weekend’s race in Bowling Green. But in racing, you have to do whatever it takes.

This brings me to where I am now. In the rush to get a new head on the car so I could take the car to Stanton and drive it through tech, I did not CC the chambers. I did tonight. And i’m close on 3 and under on 1 chamber. I have one more day left at my day job this week so I don’t think i’m going to be able to do fix the head in time to make it to Bowling Green this weekend. Hopefully I will have it all buttoned up and ready to test locally this weekend and head for Indy Sunday or Monday! I know one thing.. I will be glad to have this under my belt. Today was my 31st birthday. I still have not celebrated my 30th. I told myself I would not celebrate a birthday till I met my racing goals. So hopefully in a couple weeks i’ll get to celebrate 2 birthday’s, qualifying at Indy, and who knows, maybe a shop opening? Thanks for reading! Ill be doing my version of live from “trying to make it to Indy”, and if I succeed “Indy”. Time for a 3 hour nap!

The “Inaugural Blog Nationals”… Or my first post.. Whatever.

And so it begins… I always fantasized that some day after a long and storied career in the racing world, perhaps when I was demoted to team owner from driver, tuner, engine and chassis builder to my team and a list of who’s who in the drag racing world… That I would write about racing. Well after 30 years on this planet I look back and I can’t tell if I am a head of or behind schedule.  I mean sure I am behind schedule for my wildest dreams. However, my more sensible side is pretty amazed, proud, and grateful to of experienced some of the opportunities I have been a part of. Where ever I’m at in this pseudo career, I have decided to put the proverbial pen to the paper a littler earlier then I thought.  After all, with the invention of the interwebz, everyone is allowed to think that the world must know what’s on their mind, or that they are important enough to write about their life.

As stated above, there is no telling what I may ramble on about. Not only will there be no clear cut path on topics, but that haphazardness will extend to what sub-demographic of the racing world I may hope to captivate and how professional, politically correct, or mature I choose to be in any given post. Trust me when I say it will vary.

I mentioned that this is not only my personal blog, but will be the “shakedown run” for some websites on deck, one of which will be focused on media rich event coverage.  It is simply too hard for me to choose what I like more, a naturally aspirated big block, hemi with a screw blower, or a 2 liter with a turbo. The good news is I don’t have to choose. Keeping that in mind, one of my initiatives is to expose different corners of the drag  racing world (fans and racers alike) to each other. Not only the cars and engines, the sound, smell, and feel, but the people and what makes them tick. With everything that we have been up against the last decade, the sport has proven to be quite resilient with new classes, series, and sanctioning bodies popping up in the states and overseas. It is my belief that to further this awesome sport of ours we need to integrate all technologies, cars, and classes with each other. For instance, you cannot tell me that the sport compact crowd wouldn’t love NHRA’s Competition Eliminator class with in-line 4 and 6 cylinders battling it out against V-8s, with all types of forced induction through out the class. Not only would they love to watch those existing classes, wouldn’t it be nice if that crowd had sportsman classes to race in NHRA? There are a handful of such classes in the sportsman ranks for the leftover pro sport compact cars, but not enough.  I’m sure… Scratch that… I know that the very thought of a FWD anything in the staging lanes at divisional points race makes some veteran racers shake their head. Not discrediting the series that are out there mind you, but the fact of the matter is there is a whole new generation out there that has very little by way of organized racing to compete in. A large majority of the competitors in the performance based eliminators in the HRA’s are age 40 or above. Adding some new flavor to these events could certainly help save some of our favorite racing from extinction. With that being said my my goal is to bring some of the most diverse event coverage on the web.

Well I am being summoned to the hot tub… Yes I am working on my website in the wee hours of the morning when there is a hot tub party going on 20 feet away… Im focused. Ok, maybe party was an exaggeration tonight?
